Mary Maurine Gibson

Mary Maurine James Gibson was born to Rose Magdalena Hirschi and Abraham Thomas James on July 26, 1927 in Rexburg, Idaho. Maurine was the 3rd of seven children. Maurine attended school in Rexburg until the 3rd grade when her dad bought an apple store in Blackfoot. Her father built their house on Broadway St. and it still remains in her family today. Maurine met Howard on a blind date. Howard’s brother was dating Maurine’s friend and they all met one night after Maurine got off work. After that she dated one other boy, and Howard dated one other girl, and the rest is history. Howard and Maurine were married on April 13, 1948 in the Idaho Falls Temple. This union brought them 5 children: Terry (Leone) Gibson, Gary (Sandra) Gibson, Suzan Gibson Phelps (deceased), Karen (Steve) Farnsworth, and Kurt (Anita) Gibson; 15 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Maurine was an active member of LDS church and served in many different capacities. She was always doing many quiet acts of service for many around her. Later she and Howard served a mission at the LDS Institute and also served as temple ordinance workers. Maurine was a great example of a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and daughter of God. Her greatest joy was her family and she always made them and their friends welcome in her home. It felt like a piece of heaven on earth. We love you mom. Enjoy your great reunion.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 14, 2016 at 11 am in the Gwen LDS Ward, 1433 Gwen Dr., Pocatello. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday in the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello, 232-0542, and from 10-10:45 am Friday in the Church. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Pocatello. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.cornelisonfh.com.
