Welcome to the memorial page for

John "Bill" William Moore

May 16, 1923 ~ March 23, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old
He was born to Allen and Beryl Moore on May 16, 1923 in Fairmont, Minn. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy . He spent 26 months in the South Pacific as a crew chief on a PBY search and rescue plane. In 1944 he came to ISU as a V5, a training program for navy pilots. He met Betty Jensen during this time and they were married on January 7, 1945 at the First Presbyterian church in Pocatello. He was honorably discharged from the navy in August, 1945 in Memphis, Tenn.
Bill and Betty returned to Pocatello where Bill was trained as a journeyman electrician. He worked for CL Electric, Westvaco, INEEL and Parr Electric. In 1963 he bought Electrical Distributors Inc. and managed it for 18 years. He sold the business to CED and then started his own design company, Moore Control. Bill served on the Pocatello Airport Commission and Bannock Memorial Hospital Board.
Betty and Bill celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on January 7, 2017. They both loved to travel and went to Europe and Ireland several time. They especially enjoyed trips taken with the group who went to New Zealand, from the Presbyterian church.. However, Bill loved to go to Red fish Lake most of all. It was where he had taken his family for more than 60 years. He never allowed yard work to interfere with a good day of boating. He continued to ski until his eighties. His health was very good until lately and he went with Betty to McDonalds for their “social medicine” and challenging chats with friends.
Bill was known for his kindness to others and his integrity. He had a sense of humor and loved to tease his grandchildren (stolen bites). He had no prejudices about race, religion ,age or sex and this was apparent in his workforce at IED, He had the most diverse crew in Pocatello for many years. The only bias he had was when someone played Elvis Presley on the company radio and that brought a quick “Turn that thing off!”
He had a special gift to sooth babies and many photos show him with a sleeping child on one arm. Described as “a good man“, he helped many people and avoided recognition. Perhaps his deepest concern was availability of treatment for substance abuse disorders and for 25 years he supported a place of treatment.
Bill is survived by three of his children , Kathleen Graves (Terry), John (Helaine), Pete (Carolynn). His son Kelly, of Boise, age 63, died March 14 in Salt Lake, following heart surgery. Grand children are Karl Moore and Elise (Chris) Albano, Brendan Moore (Erin Mustard), Sean Moore, John Robert Moore and David Moore. Great grandchildren are Shantelle Graves, Austin Graves and Brayden Morrison, Arianna Albano and Emma Moore. He is also survived by brothers Joe (Kay) and David (Carol).
He was preceded in death by siblings Bob, Shirley, Tom, Dick and Pat. He recently lost his son, Kelly (Louise), noted above.
On November 11, 2014, Michael O’Donnell wrote a wonderful article about Bill in the Idaho State Journal about Bill’s experiences in the South Pacific, entitled “P B Y’s and Spam”. It can be read at www.cornelisonfh.com , in photos on Bill's obituary page.
A Celebration of Life will be held in May. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to Road to Recovery Box 6249, Pocatello.
