Maurine Helm

Maurine Helm, 85, died Thursday morning , January 12, 2017, at her home.
She was born January 2, 1932 in Pocatello Idaho, to Joseph Arza Roskelley and Lucille Gertrude Will. Maurine was raised in Pocatello. Maurine graduated from Pocatello High School.
When Maurine's two children entered grade school she continued her education at Idaho State University to become a teacher. After 6 years she graduated with a degree in elementary education. Maurine taught first grade at Jefferson and Syringa elementary schools for a total of 26 years . She was known to be an excellent reading teacher. she would always say the first 3 years you learn to read and then after that you read to learn.
Maurine married Varian S Helm on July 19 1952 in Rupert, Idaho. She gave birth to Peggy Jo in 1954 and LaMar in 1957.
Maurine enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, gardening, embroidery, fishing, and hunting. she always had at least four types of pie at all holiday dinners. Many of LaMar's friends enjoyed eating Maurine's cooking. There was always room at the table for others. Maurine's flower gardens were always most beautiful in the neighborhood and her children were very good at weeding. Maurine also had a love for football. She listened on the radio to every Poky High and Idaho state football game often cheering for players she had taught. Her other teams included Boise state and BYU. She also enjoyed theater often attending Utah Opera Festival.
Maurine especially loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, the neighbors kids, and helping others. Maurine is ammeter of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. she served in some capacity in three Relief Society presidencies. She was also very active in the Camp Fire Program for girls.
Maurine is survived by her two children Peggy Jo(Bill) Eaton of Seattle Washington and V. LaMar (Kris) Helm of Kearns Utah; seven grand Children; and her brother Bill Roskelley. She was preceded in death by her husband Varian; parents, two brothers Joe and Richard Roskelley, and two sisters Mary Kay Sorensen and Ann Savage.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Pocatello Riverside Ward Chapel, 225 Oakwood Dr., with Bishop Dan Jorgensen officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello, and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Pocatello.
