Pete Papapavlos Obituary

Pete G Papapavlos, 61, passed away peacefully on November 17th, 2021, in Pocatello, Idaho.

Pete was born August 16th, 1960, the first son of Gust and Athena Papapavlos, followed by siblings Tina, Sophia, Tammy, Mary-Ann, and Chris. Pete grew up in Pocatello and was a lifelong resident of the community. He loved God and was a devoted member of the Greek Orthodox church, serving as an altar boy and cantor from a young age. After the passing of his mother Athena, his father Gust married Evangelia Manolis, which brought four more children into the family – Spiro, Vasiliki, Vlasios and Thanasi. Pete married Georgia Xatze in Megara, Greece (later divorced). Out of that marriage, they had a son, Kosta P Papapavlos, and a grandson.

Pete was proud of his Greek heritage and was known to the Greek Orthodox community for his dedication to the faith and his beautiful voice, in his role as a cantor at church. He cherished his family, loved deeply and had a heart of gold. His smile and perky sense of humor put a smile on your face. Pete had a simple life, loved going on long walks around Pocatello, enjoyed desserts, good food and loved meals at his sister's house, "Sofiska's" as he so called her.

Pete is survived by his stepmother, Evangelia K. Papapavlos, his son, Kosta P. Papapavlos and grandson (Megara, Greece) siblings, Tina Papapavlos (Mountville, Virginia), Sophia (Greg) Barkdull (Pocatello, Idaho), Tammy Meppen (Boise, Idaho), Mary-Ann (Scott) Harrison (Lovettsville, Virginia), and Chris Papapavlos (Pocatello, Idaho), and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death is his father, Gust P. Papapavlos, his mother, Athena G. Papapavlos, step-brother, Tom Manolis, and cousins Sophia Manolis, George P. Semons, and Maria Carlson, his Theo Andrew Tsakrios, Thea Effie Tsakrios, Theo Angelo Papapavlos and Theo Paul Semons.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 20th at 10am in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church 518 N 5th Ave., Pocatello. Concluding services will be held at Mountain View Cemetery Section 52W. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, PO Box 4567 Pocatello, ID 83205.
