Roger Hanson, of Pocatello, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023. Roger was born in St. Anthony, Idaho on August 6,1938. Roger was the first child born to Paul and Vera Hanson. After 7 years of being an only child, his family was blessed with his younger sister Sandi..

As a young child, the family moved to Salt Lake City where Roger attended elementary school. The family later moved to Twin Falls and Roger graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1956. After high school, Roger briefly attended Ricks college. After Ricks, he joined the National Guard Reserve Unit and was honorably discharged June 1966.

Roger married Barbara on July 17,1964 The couple settled in Pocatello where they raised their 2 children, Stacey (Dyke) Jensen and Reid (Tera) Hanson. In the early 1990's, Roger and Barbara purchased their acreage on Laughran.

Roger was a lifelong truck driver. He drove truck for Browning Freight Lines for many years until they disbanded. Then, he started Hanson's Handyman Business where he worked and learned from his great friend Lee Hamilton. Eventually he went back into the trucking business and went to work for Union Pacific Motor Freight where he worked until he retired in 1993.

Roger also served as the East Idaho State Fair horse racing secretary for many years. He served on the East Idaho fair circut and was racing secretary for many of the local county fairs as well as for Pocatello Downs.

Roger's hobbies included body work on cars, and model building. He also enjoyed classical musi and attending the Idaho State Symphony concerts.

Roger was active in the Pocatello United Methodist Church during his adult life. He was a faithfly member of the Men's Breakfast Group which met weekly. He also served as chairman of the Trustees, on the Administrative Council,and the Wesley House board. Prior to Covid, he was a faithful pancake turner at the church's monthly Community Breakfast.

He is survived by both his children, 4 grandchildren, Kolton (Rachel) Hanson, Alex(Dakota) Morrison and great grandson Camden Morrison, Kash and Kaden Hanson. He is also survived by his sister Sandi Bills, Along with many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Roger was preceded in death by the love of his life Barbara, April of this year, his brothers in-law Ted Reid, Bill Becker, and Gary Bills and 2 nephews, Ben and Andy Becker.

The family will have a service at the Pocatello United Methodist Church on 15th and Clark, July 14th at 2:00 pm with light refreshments after. There will be a short time for sharing special memories. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, The Idaho State Civic Symphony or Pocatello United Methodist Church (Roof Fund).
