Obituary

The golden heart of Mary Ann (Martie)Howard Later stopped beating on May 2, 2021. She has journeyed on to be in the arms of those who proceeded her.
Martie was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on April 25, 1951 to James Robert Howard, Sr. and Alice Bernice Johnson Howard. She was the youngest of three children. Waiting at home for her were James, Jr. (Jimmy) and Cam. She attended school in Idaho Falls, graduating in 1969.
She moved to Pocatello, Idaho to begin college at Idaho State University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology in December 1975. Stepping gracefully from her internship into employment with the State of Idaho, Department of Health and Welfare she began her lifetime career as a Social Worker---an occupation Martie had always felt destined for. She was involved in Juvenile Probation, Child Protection, Jobs Programs, and Foster Parent Licensing. It was an occupation that remained in her blood well beyond the day she retired.
Martie was the epitome of the classy professional who transitioned easily and comfortably into a free spirit on a Harley with her soulmate, life partner and husband, Kirk Later. They traveled many roads, covered many miles and created priceless memories. Together they have a daughter, Alyson (grandchildren: Michael and Mya), son, Justin (grandchildren: Madison and Braxton).
Her interests included family, friends, being Kirk’s co-pilot, playing slot machines-whenever & wherever she found them, flower gardening. She loved the music and songs from the movie “Oh, Brother Where Art Thou?”
She is survived by her husband- Kirk, daughter- Alyson, son- Justin Later, grandchildren: Michael, Mya, Madison and Braxton. Also surviving are siblings: sister- Cam (Bill) Armstrong, brother- Jim (Nadine) Howard. Sisters-in-law: Rea Kay Winterbottom, Shelli Young, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, special Aunt ‘Arkie’ and other aunts & uncles. Brothers-in-law: Abe Winterbottom and Brent K. Young.
