John Dingman Obituary

John W. Dingman, age 70, from Pocatello, Idaho passed away peacefully at his home on June 10, 2021.
John was born June 24, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois to William Dingman and Helen Wagner Dingman. He was the second of three children. He went to Bowen High School in Chicago. He met the love of his life, Evie Chorley, at the Black Orchid Youth Dance Club when he was 17 years old. They were married October 25, 1969.
During the early years of their marriage, he worked at Illinois Central Railroad. John earned his Journeyman Electrician Certification after a four year apprenticeship. He worked for the railroad for 10 years.
The first of two beautiful daughters were born in 1973, Rebecca and then in 1976, Rachel. In 1978, the Dingman’s moved west to Pocatello, Idaho to raise their girls where they could see wide open spaces. John was an avid hunter, fisherman, and family man. The family loved to spend weekends and vacations camping and out in nature.
When they moved to Idaho, John got a job working at Bannock Regional Medical Center in the maintenance department. He made a career there and moved up the ranks and retired as the Facilities Director and was over many different departments.
After his retirement in 2001, he was able to spend his time with his three beloved grandkids going to car shows, working on cars, and participating in the local model railroad club. John absolutely loved working on cars with his oldest grandson, Dillon. Together they built a 1962 Pontiac Catalina which Dillon is still driving. He had a special relationship with Kayden as well. They loved staying up till all hours of the night discussing the meaning of life, music, and many other shared interests. Ethan loved the times his grandpa picked him up from school so the could have one on one time talking. Ethan also remembers learning how to fish and just spending time listening to his stories. In 2017, Rebecca got remarried and with that came four bonus grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. John taught his grandchildren many things about life through stories and wonderful advice that they will carry them through their entire lives.
John is proceeded in death by his parents, William and Helen, older brother James and younger sister Susan. He is survived by his wife Evie, daughters Rebecca Anderson (Ward) and Rachel Dingman. His grandchildren Dillon (fiancée Maquella Chacon) and Kayden Katzenstein, Ethan Dingman, Ward Neal, Paul and Hope Anderson, Robert McLean, and great grandchildren Dominic McLean and Quinnley Anderson.
The family has decided to have a private memorial service at John’s favorite fishing spot.
