Jerry Murl Sloan was born on November 3rd 1941 in Arroyo Grande, California to Murl and Isabella Sloan, he passed away November 27th, 2020 in Chubbuck, Idaho surrounded by his family.
He attended Arroyo Grande Union High School and joined the Marine Corps shortly after graduating High school and served proudly from 1959-1963. Later he served in the Army Reserve.
He married Karen Jo Benzon in January 1963 and they were later divorced. From that marriage they had 4 children Julie, Steven, Sean, and Jared.
He married Kira Celene Giambra in November 1987 and they were later divorced. From that marriage they had a son Stetson.
On Dec 30, 2010 he married his soul mate Mariah Gallegos in Elko Nevada. Through this marriage he gained four more children, Cecilia, Michael, Eric, and Byanca
Jerry joined the San Luis Sheriffs Department in 1970 and worked there until 1981. Jerry and his family moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1981 where he worked for Bonneville School District 93 as a school resource officer. He later worked as security at the Idaho National Lab until he retired. After retirement he loved to volunteer and donated his time to the Red Cross and SEICAA
Jerry enjoyed supporting his kids and grandkids. He had many hobbies and always found joy in the things around him. He loved the outdoors and loved to go shooting at the range. He was an avid gardener and could grow the most amazing tomatoes and peppers that in turn would make the best salsa. He loved to travel to see family in California, Texas, Mexico, Oregon and Washington. While traveling he loved to listen to music. His favorite was Credence Clearwater Revival, the Beach Boys and 3 Dog Night. Blue Grass Festivals were a favorite with his father and uncles. He and Mariah loved Mariachi Music, Greek Festivals, Farmers Market, and Revive at 5. He and Mariah enjoyed attending Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mariah Sloan; Sister, Lorie Sloan- Ford; and Brother, Ted Sloan (Arla); his children Julie Sloan Norman (Daren), Steven Sloan, Sean Sloan, Jared Sloan (Heidi), Stetson Sloan (Kieshu), Cecilia England (Matt) , Michael Cantu (Amanda), Eric Cantu, Byanca Lewis (Austin).
Jerry is loved by his 22 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren with one on the way.
He is proceeded in death by his brother, Russell Warren Sloan (Buddy); his Parents, Murl and Isabella Sloan; Brother-In-Law, Bill Ford; and Daughter-In-Law, Jill Lois Sloan.
At Jerry’s request there will be no viewing or funeral. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday December 1st 2020 at 1:00pm at Mountain View Cemetery.
