Herbert Knight Obituary

Herbert Ross Knight (76), a resident of Pocatello for 19 years, passed away at home surrounded by family on November 2, 2021. Born on March 20, 1945 in Waltham, MA, he was the elder of two children born to Herbert Millward and Dorothy Jaye (McKeever) Knight. He grew up in Arlington, a suburb of Boston, MA, and graduated from Arlington High School with the Class of 1964. He attended the Wentworth Institute of Technology for two years, earning an associates degree in electronics, after which he served with the Air Force until 1971. On December 23, 1967, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After completing a mission for the church in Texas, he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, earning a Bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Herb was a hard worker. By profession he was a field engineer and systems analyst working as a contractor with the Army Strategic Defense Command in Alabama and Colorado. He explored an interest in art when he owned an art gallery called It's an Original. After retirement, he and his family moved to Pocatello to be closer to extended family. In retirement, he spent his time serving in the Idaho Falls temple and giving back to people. He willingly shouldered responsibility.

In 1978 he met Pamela Sue Taft in Provo, and they were married January 12, 1979 in the Provo Temple. They were blessed with two daughters and six sons. Herb was a loving family man, always ready to lend a listening ear. Dedicated to the gospel and always willing to share his testimony of Jesus Christ, he set the example as someone who was always calm and good natured. He served as a bishop, counselor in two bishoprics, ward missionary, young men's president, Sunday school teacher, primary teacher, and dedicated home teacher. He embodied what it means to be a servant of the Lord.

He will be remembered also as someone who would lead with a joke and a laugh, had a life-long fascination with trains, loved to play the piano, and loved his dogs. Puns and dad jokes were his way of making the best of difficult challenges. None of us will hear Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata without thinking of dad. He was often seen with his dogs hanging out the car window or walking the fields of Pocatello where the temple now stands.

Herb is survived by his wife of 42 years, and children Ross (Allison) Knight of Berkeley, CA; Bryan Knight of Tucson, AZ; Afton (Justin) Bundock of Havre, MT; Colleen (Garett) Romriell of Pocatello, ID; Joseph (Priscilla) Knight of Pocatello, ID; Jacob Knight of Pocatello, ID; Steven (Amy) Knight of Ogden, UT; and Michael (Eddie) Knight of Boise, ID; 17 grandchildren; and a sister Dr. Ellen Knight of Wilmington, MA.

The family is thankful for those who have cared for and loved our dad during the final years of his life.
