Forrest Eugene "Butch" Hammers, 80, Pocatello, passed away, June 26, 2020.
Butch was born August 13, 1939 in Omak, Washington to Elmer and Flora Zella Kimsey Hammers.
He married his sweetheart, Juanita Elaine Deboise on the 9th. of May, 1958 at Bridgenort, Washington.
Butch worked as a Carman Welder 30 years for the Union Pacific Railroad starting 1973 in Omaha. He was transferred to Pocatello in 1988. He lived in Pocatello until 1997 when he was transferred to Desoto, Missouri. When he retired in 2003 he moved back to Pocatello. In retirement he continued to maintain friendships with several of his coworkers by regularly having lunch with his “work buddies.”
He loved watching most sports like Football, Basketball, Girls Softball, ISU Girls Basketball and Soccer. He was a regular attendee at most of the local high school games or competitions.
In retirement he and his wife Juanita, until her passing on December 20, 2013, traveled extensively with their main destinations being National Parks. Following her death, he kept up his regimen of visiting the National Parks, attending sporting events, and visiting his three sons.
Forrest visited his children twice a year and spent considerable time with them when he did. Visiting allowed him to see various topographies and climates. He enjoyed being in Arizona with Ronnie, Iowa with Robert, and Pocatello with Ricky. It was fulfilling to him to play cards, toss horseshoes, watch car races, and engage in western stuff. He was the type of person who was always willing to help someone out; particularly neighbors.
Most of all Butch appreciated family times. He relished being with family and at family functions such as birthday parties, holiday gatherings, even Christmas programs. All of his family was special to him whether they were his biological family or the family inherited by marriages. He got a lot of pleasure and reward out of the grandchildren and great grandchildren he was so closely engaged with here in Pocatello.
His family was lovingly attending him when he drew his last breath.
Butch is survived by three sons, Robert, Malvern, Iowa; Ronnie Hammers, Arizona; and Ricky (Colleen) Hammers, Pocatello, Idaho.
