Charles Raymond Johnson was born May 6th, 1929 to Charles Daniel Johnson and Melissee Margret Jenkins Johnson in Pocatello, Idaho. Charles was reunited with the love of his life March 9th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Charlie lived in Pocatello until the family moved to Orofino, Idaho during the great depression so his dad could work in the lumber mill. He graduated from Orofino High School in 1947. After high school, Charlie joined the forest service as a line cook. He loved to share his sweet treats with his forest service buddies and later with his family and friends. We will forever crave his sugar cookies.
After returning to Pocatello, Charlie went to work for the postal service as a mailman. He enjoyed delivering the mail but quickly moved up the ranks to station manager. He then ended his career at Idaho State University as the Postmaster. It was on his mail route that Charlie met and fell for the love of his life, Dee Wilson.
Charlie and Dee were married in January of 1960 in Pocatello and were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. In 1960, they were "overjoyed" to welcome a bouncing baby boy, Daniel Raymond. In 1962, they completed their family with the addition of their favorite daughter, Cheri Anne. As a family they loved to camp, cook, and create memorable adventures together.
After retiring from the postal service, Cheerful Charlie spent several years caring for his beautiful wife as Dee's health began to fail. He was devastated to lose his "Moops" in January of 2000.
Following the passing of Dee, Charlie found a new life partner in his son, Dan. They became besties and did everything together. Where one went the other was not far behind, and shenanigans always ensued. They enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, and RV trips. Seagull Bay was their home away from home.
In 2015, the fearsome twosome became a delightful trio when Dan married Lori Christensen. Lori worked very hard to not only keep the shenanigans to a minimum but to also take great care of her boys.
Charlie is survived by his son, Daniel R. Johnson (Lori) of Pocatello, Cheri A. Gray (James) of Kimberly, Idaho, grandchildren: Charlie (Camille) Johnson, Robert (Angela) Johnson, Shaye (Jason) Stevenson, Melissa (Sam) Whitworth, Alicia (Jerron) Berrett, Jacob (Stephanie) Moore, and 13 great-grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents, baby sister, Melissee M, numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and the love of his life, Dee.
The family would like to thank Encompss Home Health and their amazing staff, especially Carson, Sabrina, Heidi, and Brandy. They made this difficult time a bit easier for Charlie and the family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 14th at 11:30am at 3444 Hawthorne Road in Pocatello. Family will receive friends at the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., from 6-8 PM on Monday, March 13th as well as one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Interment will follow services at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
