Carol Gunter Obituary

Carol Dene Gunter, 77, of St. George UT, passed away peacefully on March 5th, 2024, at the Southern Utah Veterans Home - Ivins.

She was born January 17th, 1947, in Pocatello, ID to Dean and Betty Gunter. She attended Pocatello High School, graduating in 1965. She obtained her associate in nursing at Ricks College in Rexburg, before completing her B.S. in Nursing from the of Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID.

Carol Dene joined the U.S Navy as an Officer in the Nursing Corps in 1975 and retired as a Lieutenant Commander after 17 years. She was stationed in many locations around the United States, as well as the Philippines. She came to love visiting new places, as well as meeting new people around the world. During her time in the Navy, she was awarded many commendations, including the Navy Commendation Medal. During her time in the Navy, she obtained her master's degree in management from Webster University.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served a mission in Quito, Ecuador upon retiring from the Navy. Carol Dene made many great friends over the years through her many travels and had a passion for reading and genealogy. Her great love was her family, especially her two grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Eric (Kasey)Edwards, and Grandchildren, Brianna and Rylee Edwards of Las Vegas, NV; Sister Luann (Dan) Baldwin of Rialto, Ca, and brother Lynn (Betty) Gunter of Pocatello; Sister-in-law Karen Gunter of Burley, ID.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Betty Gunter; Son, Phillippe Desfosses; and Brother, Gordon Gunter.

Viewing will be held at the Pocatello West Cedar LDS church, 550 W Cedar St. at 10AM, Wednesday March 20th, with funeral services following at 11AM. Interment and Military Rites will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens following the services.
