Bruce was born December 15, 1945, in Blackfoot, Bingham, Idaho to parents Lottie Merrell and Elden Clair Gooch. He enjoyed looking for rocks, arrowheads, and thunder eggs as a youngster when he lived in Howe, Idaho. He also enjoyed going fishing.
He graduated from Snake River High School and served from 1965-1967 for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Hill Cumorah, New York Mission. He then graduated from Ricks College after his mission.
Bruce retired from the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a hard worker. He had a great mind for financial matters. He had a tender heart. He enjoyed working with the boy scouts. In his later years, his favorite game to play was Bingo.
The Last year of his life he spent in the home of his brother, Albert Gooch and family. Aaron (his nephew) was the main care giver of him until his passing. Bruce was such a good-natured guy despite his brother and nephew’s orneriness. Aaron said it was to assist Bruce with movement and interaction. Bruce loved going for rides in the car and going for walks around the block or in the house. His favorite television shows were The Brady Bunch, Little House on the Prairie, Bonanza, Maverick, Gilligan’s Island, and The Andy Griffith Show.
