Ray T. Head, 87, Pocatello, passed away, February 14, 2017 at a local care center.
He was born on June 1, 1929 in Appalachia, Virginia. to Dewey and Gladys Sloan Head. His family moved to Idaho in 1937 and lived in Bellevue, Idaho. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1949. He played football and basketball in school. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War and served in Alaska for 2 years. Ray had one younger brother, John (Elaine).
Ray and Geraldine Shirts were married October 11, 1953 in Hailey, Idaho. They moved to Pocatello so Ray could attend auto mechanics school. He also worked at Bannock Motor. After graduating, he worked at Simplot and Garrett Freight-lines. He was recruited to start a new diesel mechanic program by Jack Rucker at ISU Vo-Tech. He taught diesel mechanics for 24 years and retired in 1991.
He enjoyed gardening, and hunting and fishing with his friends and sons. He was always helpful to his neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Karen.
Ray is survived by his wife and sons, Kevin, Ken, and Kris (Lurena).
Funeral services with military rites will be held Thursday, February 23, at 11 am in the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello, where family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will be in the Bellevue Cemetery, Bellevue, Idaho.
