Welcome to the memorial page for

Osa Ruth Hansen

August 26, 1926 ~ April 19, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old
Osa (Aase) Ruth Hansen, 90, passed away April 19, 2017 peacefully in her sleep at home surrounded by her family. The family is very grateful for the brief, but wonderful care and support from the Alliance Hospice team.

Osa was born August 26, 1926 in Odense, Denmark. She was the only child of Frederik and Kamilla Pedersen. Osa married John (Jorgen) Hansen on July 10, 1948 in Odense, Denmark; one week later Osa and John were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
In April 1950, just a short six months following the birth of their first child (Merlin), the small family of three set sail for America. They arrived in New York and flew on to Salt Lake City, where they were met by their American sponsors – final destination, the small farming community of Rockland, Idaho. In September 1950, Osa, John and Merlin were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple; this had been one of the compelling reasons for coming to America, since there were no temples in Europe at that time.
Osa was an accomplished student, earning honors at her girls (pige) school, which she attended following their grade school equivalent. Her formal education was followed by several years of business school. While attending business school at night, she met and became friends with a young man who was instrumental helping her land her first job as a bookkeeper, at the same place he was working. He strongly suggested to his boss he would be smart to hire her for her sharp math skills. After a short time in this position, in the interest of improving her earnings, she answered a blind ad in the paper for another bookkeeper job. It turned out to be a feed and grain operation and she met John there on her first day. It wasn’t long before they were dating. Through her friend from business school, they also learned about the church and both her and John started attending meetings and making new friends.
Osa loved gardening, cooking and camping with her young family. She was also a devoted volunteer in the credit union movement, and served on several board and advisory positions. Once her children were through their early school years, she started a long tenure with Geo. Primbs and Sons Printing company as a bookeeper, and they remained lifelong friends.
Osa is survived by three children, Merlin Soren (Jonell) Hansen, Pocatello; MaryAnn Bente (Will) Skuse, Spokane; Helen Lone Hansen, Portland; six grandchildren, Kamille Hall, Pocatello; Christoffer Hansen, Utah; Melissa Hansen, Pocatello; Amber (Jason) Spillett, Rexburg; Danny Hansen, Mexico and Matt (Natalie) Hansen, Pocatello; and four great-grandchildren, Dillon Rogers, Jannike Hall, Case Spillett and Tommy Hansen. Osa was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents and her youngest daughter, Sandra.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 24, 2017 at 11am in the LDS Ward chapel, 4773 Independence, Chubbuck. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 at the church on Monday morning. Burial will be in the Rockland Cemetery, Rockland, Idaho.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.cornelisonfh.com
