Jillene Shappart Obituary

Jillene Rasmussen Shappart, 65, of Pocatello, passed away January 28 after a short and aggressive battle with cancer.
She was born March 4, 1952 in Pocatello, Idaho to Nyle A. and Hazel L. Rasmussen. She was the baby of the family. She was raised in Pocatello and lived there her entire life. She went to school at Lewis and Clark Elementary, Alameda Jr. High, and graduated from Highland High School in 1970.
She married Robert Daulton October 1, 1970. Even though they were married only for a short time, a beautiful baby boy named Kirt Shane arrived before they divorced in 1971. Bob and Jill have always remained friends. After marrying Darrel LeRoy Shappart on June 23, 1972, Kirt Shane was adopted by Darrel. Preemie twins, Bryan Joe and Deri JoAnna, joined the family the next year. They later divorced in 1985.
She worked for Farmers Insurance from 1979-1991. She liked the work and the people she worked with.
She loved gardening and in recent years was so proud of her plentiful garden. She was truly passionate about her tomatoes and all the bounty it produced. Shortly before passing she shared her memory of selling pumpkins and produce when she was 5 or 6 years old. Her and her siblings would become door to door salesmen. The money they earned would buy them new clothes for school from Salt Lake City.
She always had a love of animals. It started with baby chicks, and progressed to stray cats, guinea pigs, and even a mean and ornery rooster. Her favorites though were her Siamese cat Rastus , her white Schnauzer Mickey, and her bobcat Ralph. When she was 16 years old, Ralph became hers as a kitten after his mother was killed. There are many photographs of Ralph standing guard over Jill.
She loved being outdoors, camping, and fishing. As a child, there were many adventurous trips taken as a family. Many of these were to the Oregon Coast where “Pine Needle Clam Chowder” was her dad’s specialty. One of her regrets was that she never got to use her new purple fishing pole.
She was a great cook, a mean bowler, was involved in the VFW for many years, and continued to crochet until a few days before her passing.
Great happiness came from time spent with her friends and family. She had the best of friends who supported her and stayed close throughout her life. Her 6 grandchildren were her greatest fulfillment and joy in life! She loved spending time with them and going out to eat together.
Survivors include her children Kirt (Bonnie) Shappart, Deri (Kevin) Hall, and one sister Carolynn (Craig) Dudley. She also had 6 grandchildren, Christopher Stoffel, Ki Shappart, Conner Hall, Jaren Hall, Hannah Hall, & Bransen Hall. Preceding her death were her son Bryan Shappart and parents Hazel L. and Nyle A. Rasmussen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday February 3 at the Caldwell Park Building 157 S. 7th. Family will be available to meet an hour prior to services. Interment will take place at a later time at the Mountain View Cemetery.
