Welcome to the memorial page for

Glenna Foss Smith

September 20, 1923 ~ October 20, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old
Glenna Foss Smith passed away October 20, 2017 at the age of 94. Glenna was born September 20, 1923 in Auburn, Wyoming to Ernest and Eletta Foss. When she was about a year old they moved to Georgetown, Idaho, where her father went to work for the Maid of Clover Creamery. When Glenna was seven years old, the family moved to Ogden, Utah to take care for her Grandmother Hemmert, who had been diagnosed with cancer. After her Grandmother died, the family moved back to Georgetown where her father went back to work for the Union Pacific Railroad.                  Glenna graduated from Georgetown High School in May 1941. She was a cheerleader her senior year. That same month she married Sherman David Smith. They moved to Williamsburg, Idaho where Sherman worked at a saw mill. When Sherman got a job as a fireman for the Union Pacific Railroad they moved to Georgetown. While they lived there Carlos, Michael, and Sherrie were born. They moved to Montpelier in the summer of 1949, so Sherman could be closer to work. Terry was born while they lived there. While living in Montpelier, Glenna went to work for J C Penney. She worked there for 19 years. In 1972 Union Pacific RR moved its locomotive crew change site from Montpelier to Pocatello. When they moved to Pocatello, Glenna worked in retail sales for the Paris Store. After Sherman died in 1986, Glenna worked at Levines and catering at Idaho State University.
Glenna was a prolific reader. She also spent many hours sewing dresses, coats, and bonnets for her daughter and granddaughters, and ski pants and coat for her son. She was an extremely talented and creative seamstress. Her other passion was her dogs. Her specialties in the kitchen were her parker house rolls, cinnamon rolls, and fried chicken breasts. She provided the fried chicken for many picnics. She was always driving kids to the canyon for camping trips and to the gravel pit to swim, or shuttling her daughter to dance recitals. A highlight of her life was her weekly hair appointment at the ISU Cosmetology School and being featured in the ISU magazine. They treated her like a queen.         Glenna has three surviving children: Carlos (wife Ranae), Sherrie (husband Robert), and Terry (wife Patsy), nine grandchildren, nineteen great- grandchildren, and six great great- grandchildren. Glenna’s son, Michael (wife Janice) passed away in March 2006.
The family would like to thank Leora Cutler, Dennis Ketterman, the Joe and Michelle Winter family, Gail Smith from Home Keepers, Kathie Graves, and friends and neighbors for their time and affection that they have shown our Mother over the past years. Also, a special thanks to Heritage Hospice and Brookdale Assisted Living staff.
There will be a service at the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave, Pocatello on October 25th at 7:00 PM for Glenna’s friends, with a Life Sketch being read by Terry. Interment will be at the Montpelier Cemetery on October 26th at 11:00 AM, followed by a light luncheon at the Montpelier 2nd Ward cultural hall.
