She grew up with five brothers and two sisters. Delores attended and graduated from Blackfoot High School and then attended Idaho State College where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught elementary school for several years before serving a proselyting mission in the Argentina Buenos Aires Mission for the LDS Church. One of her companions was Margaret Williams (Lapray) from the Thomas area. Upon her return she taught school in Pocatello, Idaho and married Marvin Pitman on December 30, 1958 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. She then raised her family in Idaho, living in Pocatello, Dietrich, Rupert, Chubbuck, and finally Pocatello.
