Alice May Rivard, age 77, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Portnuef Medical Center. She was born on December 13, 1939, in Springfield, Massachusetts to Gladys Irene Clough and Arthur Theodore Messier.
Alice met her future husband Robert Anatole Rivard Sr., when she was 15, while riding her bicycle on her neighborhood paper route. They lived just around the corner from each other and Alice delivered the newspaper every morning. Alice graduated from the High School of Commerce in 1957. Soon after graduation she took a position in the Pension Dept. for Mass Mutual Insurance Company.
Alice and Robert (Rob) were married September 12, 1959, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Springfield, Massachusetts. Their reception was held at the Adriatic Club. Shortly after their wedding they moved to East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, and were blessed with two children, Bob Rivard, Jr. and Nancy Rivard Adams.
In 1966, Rob was offered a job and their young family moved across the country to Southern California. Once settled in, Alice took a position as a Nurse's Aide for an elderly care facility in Reseda, Califoria. They also owned and operated a computer retail/store in Chatsworth, CA, close to their residence. After Alice and Rob retired, they moved with their daughter and her family to Pocatello, ID in 2005.
Alice was a beloved matriarch and blessed with many talents and hobbies, including sewing, carpentry, arts and crafts. Over the years,she has created beautiful and cherished heirlooms for every member of her family. Alice was also working on compiling her family genealogy.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, her mother and father, brothers William and David, and sister Lelia. Alice is survived by her children, Robert "Bob" Jr., daughter-in-law Kimberly Rivard, daughter Nancy Adams, son-in-law Stephen Adams; four grandchildren, Katherine (Aaron) Penne, Alexander Rivard, Danielle (Zachary) Damrow, Jennifer Adams; brother Arthur Theodore Messier Jr., sisters-in-law Jaqueline (Butch) Wheeler, Marguerite Barden (Paul), Carmen Rivard, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held in Springfield, Massachusetts with family and friends, at a future date.
