Verla M. Grayson, 84, Pocatello, our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend passed away, Thursday, June 21, 2012 at home surrounded by her family. Verla was born December 31, 1927 in Quinlan, Oklahoma to Charles and Lelia Newman Clayton. She married John T. Grayson October 25, 1947 in Higgins, Texas. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1998. Verla worked as a nurse in Oklahoma during and following World War II. She also worked as a custodial Foreman at Idaho State University.
She loved being with her grandchildren, cooking, gardening, visiting estate and yard sales, and occasional gambling. She was a past member of the Central Christian Church. She served as a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary.
Verla is survived by four sons, Tom Grayson, Pocatello; Clay (Chris) Grayson, Pocatello; Pat (Karen) Grayson, Pocatello; John Paul (Anita) Grayson, Pocatello; one daughter, Kay Grayson, Pocatello; three grandchildren, Craig, Amber, and Brittiany, Pocatello; two brothers, John O. (Gladys) Clayton, Texas; J.C. (Totsie) Clayton, Texas; one sister, Leola Alley. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, parents, and brother-in-law, Norman Alley.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Pocatello with Reverend Roger J. Bray conducting. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, June 24, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. in the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello.
