Stanly T. Smith, 93, of Pocatello passed away in his favorite recliner with his wife of 67 yrs and his dogs by his side on Feb 23, 2017.
Stan was born in Rawlings, WY in 1923 to Lulla and Stanly Carl Smith. After graduating from Pocatello High School Stan enlisted in the US Army and was deployed to join European forces in WWII. He proudly served his tour with the 126th AAA Gun Battalion. After being honorable discharged in 1946 he returned home and ended up working for Challenge, where he met the love of his live, Beverly. In 1949 they were married and soon after Stan began his long and happy career with Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement. During this time Stan and Bev had 2 children, Wesley and Theresa. Stan spent all his free time in the outdoors, but especially loved camping, fishing and traveling with his family. His family meant everything to Stan, but everyone that came into Stan’s life instantly felt welcome and quickly learned how wonderful and generous he was. He was the husband, father, and grandfather most wish they had and Stan will truly and greatly be missed.
Stan is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Ann Smith, both his children Wesley (& Maria) Smith, of Tacoma, WA, and Theresa Hansen of Pocatello, and 4 granddaughters Sabrina (& Lewis) McGarr, Laramie Smith, Melinda Hansen, and Courtney Smith.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at a later date.
