Russell Edward Sanders, 64, of Pocatello, ID, passed away in his home surrounded by family on December 13, 2017, due to complications stemming from a long battle with cancer.
The funeral service will be held on December 15th, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Avenue Pocatello, ID 83201. Reverend William S. Beard of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church will serve as the officiant. Visitation will be held on December 14th, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, also at Cornelison. Burial will follow the funeral at Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello.
Russell was born in San Diego, CA on June 28th, 1953. He graduated from Pocatello High School Class of ‘71 and thereafter pursued many academic interests.
Russell married Sandra on January 1st, 1987; they were married 30 years.
Russell lived as a very devoted and God-fearing family man. His work touched many lives throughout the city of Pocatello. He may be best known for hosting a Jazz themed radio show for 20 years, as well as for being the Parks and Recreation Department Ross Park groundskeeper and maintaining the city’s beautiful planters downtown. Music was always present throughout his work day, and local folks recall him dancing while watering flowers from his vehicle. His community impact reached from his high school basketball career as a Poky Indian to coaching in the local youth basketball games. Wherever he worked, his charisma positively influenced those around him.
Russell is survived by his wife Sandra, mother Mary E. Watkins and his sons DaVaun, Ryan, Elliott, and Jamal.
