Melvin Wayne Wood, 77, of Idaho Falls passed away, Thursday, April 12, 2018 at his home.
He was born May 31, 1940, in Blackfoot, Idaho the second son of LaVar Merrill Wood and Annie Jane Christiansen. He grew up in Rockford, Idaho and graduated from Snake River High School in 1959. He married Gayla Harman in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 29, 1959.
He farmed in Rockford for many years. During the winter months he worked in maintenance for a potato plant in Blackfoot. He was very good at repairing everything from machinery to household items and taught his son to do the same. In later years, Wayne sold the farm and moved with Gayla to Albuquerque, New Mexico to be by their daughter, Sheila, and her family. After Gayla’s passing, Wayne moved to Friendswood, Texas to be by his son, Todd and his family. He enjoyed watching the sporting events of his grandchildren and was always in attendance. In 2013, when his son moved from Texas, Wayne relocated to Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He is survived by a daughter, Sheila (Terry) Montague of Idaho Falls; a son, Todd (Jolene) Wood of Utah; and a brother, Dean (Jeanine) Wood of Thomas. He has 7 grandchildren: Marcus, Jaxson, HolliJo, Ryan, Mauri, Jordan, and Justin. He has 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayla Harman Wood, who passed away August 14, 2004; and also his parents, LaVar who passed away May 20, 1980 and Jane who passed away January 5, 2005.
His remains will be buried in the Riverside Thomas Cemetery. A graveside service will be held for family.
