Marion Robinson Obituary

Marion Rose Smith Scadden Robinson passed away on April 18, 2018 at age 94 at Quinn Meadows Care Center in Pocatello, Idaho.

Marion was born in Pocatello, Idaho on June 2, 1923 the sixth child and only daughter of Ira Wilder Smith and Rose Catherine Tolman. Her five brothers Wiley Joseph, Willard Merrit, Carl Murillo, Charles Melvin, and Elmer Ray preceded her in death. She was the half-sister of Shirley Menard, Verla Laughridge, and Art Ricks; Shirley and Art preceded her in death.

Marion contracted polio at 18 months of age, which became a life-long challenge that she never allowed to defeat her kind and loving spirit.

At age four, her mother left the home and married David Lester Ricks. Marion lived with her father and brothers until her father remarried in May 1928, at which time she went to live with her grandparents Joseph Hyrum and Rosahanna Walton Tolman in the Tyhee area. She remained with her grandparents until their health required her to return to her mother and stepfather.

Marion married Walter Alexander Scadden on March 5, 1943. Their daughter Rose Marie was born on June 21, 1944. Walter died on July 28, 1944 from wounds received during a WWII battle on Utah Beach, Normandy. She then married Luther Nelson Robinson on December 22, 1945. They had twins, Evan Luther and Evelyn Etta Robinson on November 5, 1946.

Marion was a master homemaker whose many skills included cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, gardening, and mothering.

Luther died on September 17, 1987 at which time she moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon and resided with her daughter Marie Loveland Ammon until May 2013, when she returned to Pocatello, Idaho where she resided until her passing.

Marion is survived by her three children, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Special thanks and appreciation is given for the kind and loving support by nieces Janice Nelson, Jean Christensen and E. Pat Smith.
