January 21, 1931 – September 22, 2016

LaRae McDougall Curtis passed away on September 22, 2016 from cancer at the home of her loving and caring daughter Debra Slaughter in Pocatello, ID.

LaRae was born Jan. 21, 1931 to Esker and Odessa Hanes in Pocatello, Idaho and graduated from Pocatello High School. While a senior at Pocatello High School, LaRae met a Mountain Bell representative on a bus, and she was so impressed by LaRae that she wanted her to come to work for her at Mountain Bell. So as a senior LaRae started to work part-time at Mountain Bell which eventually after graduation transpired into a full time position , and she later became a Supervisor. LaRae later transferred to Salt Lake City, UT and after many years was able to take an early retirement from the telephone company.

LaRae married Harry O. McDougall and after his passing in 1973, several years later she met and married Lanny Curtis in Salt Lake City, UT. After the death of Lanny, LaRae moved to Lake Havasu, AZ where she resided for approximately 30 years. In 2013, LaRae moved back to Pocatello, ID to live with her daughter Debra.

LaRae enjoyed very much the summers she and Harry spent in Island Park, ID with family and friends. LaRae in her active life enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, skiing, bowling, traveling, and family reunions.

LaRae is survived by her stepson Butch (Andrea) McDougall, and daughter Debra Slaughter. Grandchildren Rachael Slaughter, Ryan (Ashley) Slaughter, and Ashley McDougall. Great Grandchildren Torie Slaughter, Brookelynn Mills, Mia Slaughter, and Olivia Slaughter all of Pocatello, ID. Nephews James R. Marshall, Lake Havasu, AZ, Robert R. (Janet)Marshall
Pocatello, ID, Gary (Irene) Marshall Nampa, ID, and David Hanes of California.

LaRae was preceded in death by her parents and husbands Harry O. McDougall and Lanny Curtis, brothers John Hanes and Morice Hanes.; sisters Grace Marshall and Wanda Rutten, great grandson Ethan Mills, nieces Terri Lynn Boswell, Vicki Zimmerman, Kathleen Messerli, and a niece-in-law Eleni Marshall.

The family wishes to give a thank you to anyone who helped care for LaRae during her illness and your expessions of love and support. A super big thank you to the personnel of Encompass Home Health Hospice for all of their outstanding, tender, loving, care of LaRae.

LaRae was an angel on earth as she showed love and caring for so many family members that have gone on before. LaRae we love you and will miss you until we meet again!

A Celebration of Life will be on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 3:00 pm in the Elks Lodge #674 on 410 South Main , Pocatello, ID upstairs Lodge.
