LaWanna Fifield

November 7, 2014

LaWanna Rowsell Winters Fifield,79, passed away November 7, 2014 at Ashley Manor Memory Care in Pocatello, Idaho of Alzheimer's Diease.
LaWanna was born August 18, 1935 in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho.  She was the daughter of Reta Bell Rowsell and Calvin A. Rowell. She was raised on the family dairy farm sharing the hard work with her older sister Nalene Hebdon (the late Ernie Hebdon) of Lava Hot Springs and older brother Calvin Leon (Marlene) Rowsell of Blackfoot.  At the age of 16 she married Jerry Winters.  They made their home in Pocatello.  To this union was born three daughters: Jeraldene (Hal) Brendle of Blackfoot, Linda (Wayne) Barlow, and Victoria Henderson (the late Todd Henderson) both from Pocatello. After 16 years of marriage LaWanna and Jerry divorced.
She worked many years as a cashier starting at the Wonder Bread/Hostess thrift shop finally retiring from Albertsons after close to 30 years of service at Albertsons. After she retired from Albertsons she met and married Glade T. Fifield.  They were married and sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, March 26, 1999.  They enjoyed traveling together, overseeing rental property, and spending their winters sunning in Mesa, Arizona.  By late 2005, LaWanna was beginning  to show sure signs of Alzheimer's.  When LaWanna and Glade wintered in Arizona, LaWanna did well.  She always enjoyed the sunshine and it seemed to lift both their spirits. The winter of 2011 - 2012 was the last time they enjoyed Arizona even though LaWanna's Alzheimer's was making life very difficult for Glade.  When they returned the spring of 2012, Glade was diagnosed with Cancer.  Glade tried to serve and  protect LaWanna as he battled his on sickness.  Life was hard for both of them.  Christmas 2012, Glade got pneumonia and passed away March 13, 2013 after 14 years of marriage. LaWanna was trusted to the care of Ashley Manor Memory Care where she brought smiles and was loved.
LaWanna was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints.
She enjoyed working out in her yard, loved flowers, going to church, playing her piano, watching NFL Football, attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's various  activities  and was a very accomplished seamstress and crocheter.  She also enjoyed swimming and a good game of yard baseball.  Her favorite Christmas present was to make  dozens of sugar cookies, decorate them, and give them to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Her joy was bringing her family together for summer picnics to celebrate her birthday and again in December for a pizza parties to celebrate Christmas.
LaWanna is survived by her legacy of three daughters, 21 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister and brother.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a granddaughter, a son-in-law, a brother-in-law, a nephew (John Schaafs) and her favorite dog pal, Susie.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Cornelison Funeral Chapel, 431 North 15th Ave., Pocatello, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services.  LaWanna will be laid to rest in Lava Hot Springs Cemetery.
