Irene Wanda Smith Shane Longmore Elliott, age 95, passed away in Bingen, Klickitat County, WA, on 30 May 2017, due to natural causes.
Mrs. Elliott was born in Shelley, Bingham County, ID, on 15 July 1921, the fourth child of Joseph Smith and Jennie Snowball.
She grew up with siblings, Jed, Floyd, Edith and Betty near the Alberta, Canada towns of Bossano (SE of Calgary) and Kingman and Camrose (both SE of Edmonton). With the Great Depression in full swing, the family moved to Osgood, ID. Irene attended one-year of high school in Ammon, ID.
She married Marion Marshall Shane on 10 December 1936. They had two children and lived for a time in central Washington. They divorced. She first married Hyrum Jesse Longmore on 26 August 1940. They lived in Thomas, ID; then Randle, WA; and later in, Blackfoot, Sand Point, Grant and Milo, ID. They had seven children, but divorced, for a final time in 1963. She married Howard David Elliott, 12 January 1979, in Pocatello, ID. They were married for 27 years, all spent in Pocatello ~ or on the roads of North America in their fifth-wheel staying in Thousand Trail resorts.
Irene worked long as a farm-housewife, but also as a waitress and home caregiver. She was a mother and gave birth to nine children. She later worked as a matron for various Idaho Falls schools for 17 years. During a long period as a single mom, she obtained a GED and then, during five years, earned an Associate Degree from Ricks College (now Brigham Young University-Idaho) ~ all while working multiple jobs.
Irene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. From her teens she loved dancing, music, and later, traveling. As a player of board games, she was a ferocious (and winning) competitor; as a friend and family member she was a compassionate servant of many.
She is survived by her children Anita (William) Cottrell (Blackfoot, ID), Jim (Norma) Shane (Wendell, ID), Mona (Ralph) Wilson (Odell, OR), Lois (Val) Meikle (Meridian, ID), Elna Loa (Jim) Hale (Eugene, OR), Susan (Roy) Brandt (Bingen, WA), and Wayne (Chris) Longmore (Idaho Falls, ID); step-children David (Carol) Elliott, Linda Reasor, Carol (Ken) Smith, and Britt Elliott (all of Boise, ID); and one sister, Betty Thompson (Pocatello, ID). She has about 200 descendents.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her other siblings, one infant son: David Longmore, and one adult son: Doyle Longmore.
In recent years, she lived in the home of her daughter, Susan.
Funeral services will be at 11 am, Saturday, June 3, in the LDS Ward, 300 East Chapel Rd., where family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will be in the
