February 11, 1924 ~ September 22, 2016 (age 92) 92 Years Old
Dorothy Hedlund Wright Massier, 92, Las Vegas, passed away, September 22, 2016. Dorothy was born in the Pocatello General Hospital February 11, 1924 to Anna and Andrew Hedlund. During her childhood and teenage years she attended Lincoln Elementary School, Irving Junior High School and Pocatello High School. At Irving and Pocatello High School she participated in the glee clubs and choir. She graduated from Poky High with the class of 1942 during World War II.
In 1940 she was honored by having been elected as Queen of Job's Daughters, Bethel No. 1. Her church affiliation was with Grace Lutheran Church where she learned to love the Lord and during that time played an old pump organ during the Sunday Morning Worship Services. The church building was a small chapel located on Custer Street.
After graduating from Pocatello High School, Dorothy attended the Felt and Terrent Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah. After completing her business training there she returned to Pocatello and was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad Company as a timekeeper. There she did payroll and also kept records of the engineers and firemen work weeks. Her work continued there until 1947 when she married Richard F. Wright and later they year they moved to Oakland, California where Richard went to school and Dorothy continued working being employed by the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. When Richard graduated in 1949 they moved to Portland, Oregon where she again joined the Union Pacific Railroad Company as a timekeeper remaining there until 1950 when they moved to Medford, Oregon where she was a homemaker. There they had two sons: Dorian born November 23, 1950 and Dennis born June 15, 1953. In 1957 the family moved to Sacramento, California.
During a discussion with their milk delivery man, she was told that the dairy he worked for was in need of someone to work in their office. She gave it some thought, as it was close to where Dorothy lived. She decided to explore the opportunity and was immediately hired for the position at Taylor's Dairy and worked there for many years. After leaving Taylor's she was hired as field representative in the dairy industry, being employed successively by Challenge and Foremost Dairies.
Dorothy and Richard enjoyed socializing with their friends in many activities and enjoyed square dancing. Belonging to the Hiwaymen Square Dance Club. Richard passed away July 21, 1978 and later that year Dorothy met her high school sweetheart, Paul Massier who was a widower and later that year they were married. They made their home in Arcadia, California. A few months later Dorothy began working for World Way Luggage Company which had a retail outlet just around the corner from their home. Dorothy remained with the organization for about five years before retiring.
Dorothy and Paul have had many wonderful years together and traveled to many foreign countries including Scandinavia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Papua New Guinea and many others including much of the United States.
In 2001 they moved from Arcadia, California to Las Vegas, Nevada. Established a home there where their activities changed. This kept her active until health issues changed her life.
Dorothy lost her son, Dorian in 2006. Her survivors besides her husband, Paul, include her son Dennis Wright and her daughter-in-law, Holli who live in South Lake Tahoe, California. She also leaves two grandchildren, Lyndee and Andrew Wright and a great grandson, Kaiyden who live in Mt. Aukum, California. She is also survived by two step daughters: Paulette Holden (Doug) and Marilyn Schwegler (Spencer), four step grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Andrew Hedlund, her brother, Dr. Roy M. Hedlund and her son Dorian.
Dorothy requests there be no formal service but an hour at the Cornelison Funeral Home for friends to meet with the family before being taken to Mountain View Cemetery for resting until resurrection.
To every member of my family, especially my husband Paul for giving me many years of love, fun, travel and being able to enjoy our remaining years together. To all my Poky friends, I thank you for the years of pleasure, either in person, phone conversations, e-mail and snail mail. This is a temporary farewell knowing we will be reunited together once again and will rejoice to be with our Heavenly Father.
To my son Dennis and my daughter-in-law Holli for all their concerns for Paul and myself in our needs. To my grandchildren for all the phone calls and taking time to travel here making sure my great grandson knows how to say "Jag Alskar Dig" in Swedish that tells me "I love you". Wonderful memories to carry with me.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy requests any remembrances be made to the Paul F. and Dorothy H. Massier Mechanical Engineering Research Fund at Idaho State University, Pocatello, Idaho.

To those I love and those that love me
When I am gone, release me, let me go
I have so many things to see and do
You mustn't tie yourself to me in tears
Be happy that we had so many good years

I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness
I thank you for the love you each have shown
But now it's time I traveled alone.

So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It is only for a while that we must part
So bless the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear
All my love around you soft and clear.

And then when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and "WELCOME HOME"
