Dave Simpson
by Kirt Spencer
3/12/16

There’s not enough words in the dictionary
Nor enough thoughts so diversionary
To describe the world without Dave in it

He was who he was, he pulled no punches
Based his life on facts, and never just hunches
That was Dave, no matter how you try to spin it

Gentle Giant, King of the Courtroom
With Dave, never really safe to assume
He was who he was, even to the end

Man on a mission, for most of his life
I knew Janet, his tennis playing wife
With her, some eleven years he did spend

Was sad when I heard she had passed from this realm
Leaving Dave alone, with his hands at the helm
Dave was convalescing at a place called Healthsouth

I walked in the room where he was soundly sleeping
I tiptoed in, you might say I was creeping
His eyes were closed, the only thing open, his mouth

I had been sent there by some old guys I knew from my past
When around a table, with donuts and chatter, subjects were vast
It was the last time I saw Dave, and the old guys for that matter

And now I hear Dave has been given his halo and wings
Back to his sweethearts, in Heaven, while choirs sing
Leaving his friends to their chaos and earthly chatter

I think of the times, I had shared with Janet and Dave
I tried to be civil, I did my best to behave
But I was not always successful or even close

They were light hearted, airy and full of such zest
Doing for others, always happy, always at their best
That I was part of this agenda, kept me on my toes

Now they have both departed and left Mother Earth
Know they left it, much better from the day of their birth
But for those who remain, some time to grieve and be sad

Old guys like, Ken Robinson, Merv and even Mr. Lou
Daughter named Pat Kent, and a son named Fred , too
Survivors, just missing an old friend, buddy or dad

to fred and pat: We are sorry to hear of David passing on. He had along life due to his clean living , quick wit and dry sense of humor. I am sure every one of his days was a diamond. I really enjoyed talking with and working with him at the savings and loan.

To my classmate Fred and the rest of the Simpson family, my sincere condolences at the loss of your father. Many times I would see your father out for a walk on St Louis Street and often I would stop and ask about Fred. He always had an update which he relayed to me with pride.

I have fond memories of our next door neighbors, Dave, Betty, Patty, and Fred. I remember Pat's horse and many cold mornings at the bus stop. Dave did our Dad's will and encouraged my husband when he was considering law school. Denise, my sister, (a CPA) worked several years for Dave's firm (after he had retired).
My husband and I are both 62 this year and recently purchased and moved into my childhood home. Our good neighbors are now the Mosbys' who bought the home your Dad moved from when he was 62.
My husband became an associate judge in 2013 after 33 years of practicing law. We're looking forward to our first Spring here and watching our nine grandchildren play in the yard. Unfortunately I don't think the mosquitos will be any better than they were when we were kids!
We extend our sympathy to your family. Great parents are hard to lose at any age. So glad he had such a full and blessed life and that you are left with so many wonderful memories. My parents enjoyed visiting Dave and Betty many times in Tucson. Our Dad, Les Miller, died in April 2009, and our Mother, Betty Miller, died in Dec. 2012. Denise's husband, Mark Cook, died Feb. 14 of this year.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely Ron & Deb Slemer and family

Thanks for the memories. I don't think the mosquitos will ever change.

I had the pleasure of working at Burroughs, Simpson & Wilson from 1975 to 1979. I remember Mr. Simpson being a very pleasant gentleman to work with. What a wonderful life he lived!
