Daryl “Sandy” Sanborn, 90, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the Idaho State Veteran’s Home in Pocatello. Sandy was born June 21, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clarence and Sarah Sanborn. He was raised and attended schools in Salt Lake City, graduating from East High School. He attended the University of Utah where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Sandy married Billie Quick in 1949 and moved his family to Pocatello in 1953. He raised his five children in Pocatello where he was active in their lives. He coached his sons in baseball and was involved with the Bannock Boys Baseball Association. Sandy was an organizer and helped start the Pocatello Indians Poky Pride Club and because of his daughter, Lisa, he was heavily involved with the S.W.I.F.T organization and Special Olympics. Sandy later joined the Masonic Lodge and became very involved with the fraternal organization. He served as an Associate Guardian for several Jobs Daughter Bethels, served in various positions within his own Masonic Lodge and held a position with the Grand Lodge. Through his involvement with the Masons he was able to volunteer at the Idaho State Veteran’s Home where he helped run the Commissary and helped start the Bingo games. He enjoyed many years volunteering at the Vet’s Home and made many friends among the staff and residents. The Masons recognized Sandy for his 25 years of community volunteering in 2012. Sandy is survived by his spouse, Billie; his daughter Laurie (Gregg) Hopkins of Blackfoot, Idaho; and son Dek (Jana) Sanborn of Fortville, Indiana; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Craig and Collin; and his daughter, Lisa. Memorial services will be held later in June 2016 at the Cornelison Funeral Home. Memorials in his name may be given to Shriner's Childrens Hospital or the Special Olympics. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello, 232-0542.
