Bert M. Palmer of Pocatello, Idaho passed away peacefully early Wednesday, September 21, 2016. Bert was born April 5, 1925 to John Joseph Palmer and Ethel Laura Ogden in Duluth Minnesota. He was the fifth child of seven children.
Barely old enough to enlist, Bert joined the Army in 1943 and was swiftly engaged in the South Pacific WWII effort. Bert received an honorable discharge in 1946 and considers those years to be the greatest part of his life. Shortly after the war he relocated to Pocatello, working for Garrett Trucking, Cream Top Dairy and finally landing a job in 1957 with the U.S. Postal Service were he enjoyed delivering mail and greeting the people of the downtown area. He retired in 1988, only to continue his entrepreneurial adventures with ventures such as U.S Bert’s Corner Cup.
Bert was well known for his crooked hat, his infectious laugh, smile and charm, his golfing prowess, his entrepreneurial spirit, and the love and generosity he had for his children and grandchildren.
Bert married Betty Arntson in 1946; they raised four children and divorced in 1975. In 1978 he married Sharon Coffin and took on three more children.
He was preceded in death by both his parents and all his siblings; his daughter Linda Palmer; his granddaughter Jususa; his grandson Rick; and the love of his life, his wife Sharon Coffin.
He is survived by his first wife Betty, and children Bart Alan Palmer, Vern Palmer, and Kay Aguirre; Sharon’s children Courtenay Davis, Adrienne Shilling, and Nick Millward; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grand children.
