On Saturday, May 6, 2017 Ben R. LaRue passed away at the Idaho State Veterans home in Pocatello Idaho after a lingering illness.
Ben was born on November 26, 1930 to Robert B LaRue and Elizabeth B. LaRue in Pocatello Idaho. His twin, Benjamin R. LaRue died of pneumonia when were 18 days old.
Ben grew up with three brothers Bernard Jacob, Warren Bailey, Joseph Dyer and one sister, Mary Elizabeth LaRue , he being the youngest. He enjoyed his childhood and had many friends in a friendly neighborhood.
He attended Bonneville Elementary School, Franklin Junior High and Pocatello High School. Eager to go into the service, he dropped out of high school and joined the United States Air Force and ended up seeing active duty during the Korean War and found himself in some very dangerous situations.
Following his time in the Air Force he returned home and then moved to California where he took lessons to become a pilot earned a license. He also obtained a GED to graduate high school.
He later moved to Barataria, Louisiana , living on the farm property of his mother’s family and became an EMT for several years before moving back to Pocatello.
His favorite past time was building model airplanes which he began doing as a youngster and became a real expert throughout the years.
Ben became a father to his daughter, Denise and to son Burt who both live in California . He later married his wife, Ruth Ann in Pocatello and became a father to son Blake who lives in Washington D.C. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his nephews, sister’s son and his son’s sons during his later time in Pocatello before becoming quite ill.
Ben was raised up in the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Pocatello as was his three brothers and sister. All five were baptized as youth.
He worked in Pocatello on various jobs and his last job was for the School District where he worked in maintenance at one of the elementary schools and retired from it.
His late wife, Ruth Ann, had arranged to have Ben entered into the State Veterans Home here in Pocatello not long before she, being seriously ill, passed away. He was well taken care of at the Home.
Graveside services will be held Friday, May 12 at 2 pm in the Mountain View Cemetery, Pocatello (Section 24 East). Arrangements are under the direction of the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.cornelisonfh.com
