Ms. Barbara Jean Secrett Nash was born May 30, 1939 in Pocatello, Idaho to Willia V. and Edgar Secrett. Her father was a successful entrepreneurial pioneer. He owned his own barber shop, which was the only establishment that would cater to Black clients in the early 40s and 50s. Her mother worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and raised her family.
Barbara attended Bonneville Elementary School, Franklin Junior High School, Pocatello High School and eventually continued her education to obtain her Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology. Her lifelong passion for learning instilled the importance of education in her children.

Barbara was passionate about politics, social justice, current events and most of all, her grandchildren – “J”, “One-of-a Kind Guy”, and Short Stack. Her brilliance and wisdom gave her the ability to provide valuable perspective to the organizations she served and to her family regarding school, work, relationships and everything in between.
Barbara was an avid Track & Field fan. She was an official for ISU and volunteer for the Simplot Games, where she received certificates for her dedication and years of service.
